In the early 1990s, there were very few clinic management software options for Canadian hearing healthcare clinics. All of the software packages were manufactured in the United States, making availability and affordability a challenge to many Canadian clinics.
Geared towards US hearing healthcare clinics, the software packages didn’t meet the unique needs of the Canadian healthcare market. Further, the solutions weren’t scalable to grow with a clinic or customizable to meet individual clinic needs. The overall solution was lacking in feature updates and improvements to keep current with industry needs.
So, recognizing the need for a Canadian-centric solution by a software company committed to the software, Abacus Data Solutions developed the HearWare prototype in 1997.
This early version of HearWare was installed in a successful hearing clinic for a pilot. The trial lasted five years, during which time HearWare was fine-tuned. In 2002 HearWare was ready for commercial release. Because of this extensive testing early on in its development, HearWare was launched successfully across Canada
Today, HearWare is in use in eight provinces, from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Victoria, British Columbia.
